Here are a few of my favorite books (roughly in order of preference)
Sitting Still Like a Frog by Eline Snel -- My current favorite. Simple. A book for parents. A CD for kids. My daughter loves listening to the CD before bed. (Forward by Jon Kabat-Zinn)
Calm and Compassionate Children by Susan Usha Dermond -- Great ideas for ways to integrate mindfulness into your daily family routines. And have more fun together. Everyday Blessings by Myla and Jon Kabat-Zinn (Daughter of Howard Zinn and the founder of MBSR) -- About the view of parenting. The chapter on sovereignty presents one of the most sane views of parenting I've come across.
Unconditional Parenting by Alfie Kohn -- Making an argument for discipline that is holistic and with a longer view. What do you as a parent want to model for your children? Not a fan of behaviorist parenting strategies.
The Emotional Life of Your Brain by Richard Davidson, Ph.D. -- Some of the most current research on the neurobiology of emotions and personality. Fascinating.
Brain Rules and Brain Rules for Baby by John Medina -- A developmental molecular biologist talks about neuroscience and parenting. Fight fair with your partner and develop self-control.
NurtureShock by Po Bronson -- Interesting read, same guy who wrote the article How Not to Talk to Your Kids(based on research by Carol Dweck) also talks about the importance of self-control.
The Mindful Child by Susan Kaiser Greenland -- Basic mindfulness practices to help your kids improve the A.B.Cs: attention, balance and compassion.
Planting Seeds by Thich Nhat Hanh -- A true master on mindfulness with children.
